Occupational Toxicology
The scientific community and the general public have become increasingly aware of and concerned about the effects of occupational and environmental factors on health. While basic research into toxic mechanisms and epidemiologic studies of dose-response relationships remain the province of specialists, clinical recognition and evaluation of the role of these factors in human health problems are the responsibility of the Toxicologist. Dr. Lowry has had numerous years of experience in evaluating occupational and environmental health problems, both in the environmental and the clinical setting. Combustion Toxicology (Click here for more information) In association with McDowell Owens Engineering, Inc. Kingwood, Texas, Fire Testing Laboratory capabilities and modeling studies of combustion toxicology are available to study fire/smoke inhalation deaths or injuries. Dr. Lowry's work on fire events includes the MGM Grand Hotel fire, the Las Vegas Hilton fire, the Dupont Plaza Hotel fire (San Juan, Puerto Rico), and the New York Transit Authority Subway fire.

Risk
Assessment and Health Evaluation
Utilizing accepted risk assessment protocols, population health risks
associated with potential chemical exposure can be evaluated. To cause
a risk, a chemical has to be both toxic (present an intrinsic hazard),
and be present in the human environment at some significant level (provide
opportunity for human exposure). |
